Frequently Asked Questions

Couldn't find the answer to your question? Would you like further information about a topic? Let us help you: Visit Contact Us or please just call us directly at 1-877-347-4888 or 408-204-0696. We're always happy to let you know why this is the best way to buy movies!

How are your movies edited?
We believe a movie does not become great by its content alone but also by the way its presented. That's why our experienced video and audio editing team takes pride in removing offensive content while maintaining the look and feel of the movie. You can find more information about how we edit here.

What's taken out of each movie?
Actually, we offer two types of edits to choose from. This way, you have a better understanding about what's been taken out. You can find more information about what we take out here.

What are the two types of edits?
When you purchase a movie from Good Movies, you receive a free backup copy of the movie. There are two different types of editing for each backup. You can choose one edited similar to "PG-13" or on edited similar to "PG." You can find a more detailed description of the editing types here.

Will the video quality of the backup look as nice as the original DVD?
Yes! Our advanced editing techniques allow us to keep the original picture quality of the movie. You can find more about our editing quality here.

What format are the DVDs in?
All movies (original and backup) are in widescreen format and keep the true aspect ratio of the original movie.

Will the edited backup play on my DVD player?
Yes! Most new DVD players are fully capable of playing movies copied on recordable media. In addition, we speak DVD and our edited backups are specifically programmed to be recognized by all players including game consoles that play DVDs. If you are still not sure about your DVD player's performance, consult your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer.
*For international customers, both the original and the edited copy are region 1 encoded. In order to play either DVD, you must have a region 1 or region-free DVD player.*

Why can't I just buy / rent the backup DVD if I already own the original?
We, at Good Movies, consider this practice to be in violation with established copyright laws. Instead, we offer to create a backup copy of any movie purchased through us for free.

Why do I have to click an agreement to buy a movie?
This agreement gives us your authorization to create a backup copy for your purchase. It also explains the laws and restrictions associated with owning a backup copy. For more details, see the question below.

What are you terms and conditions?
This is a brief summary of our terms and conditions and should not be treated as all inclusive or as a substitute for reading the full terms and conditions at checkout.

  1. You give us permission to create a backup copy for your purchased movie(s).
  2. You will only use the backup copy for private use.
  3. You will not create other copies of the original or backup DVDs.
  4. You agree to always keep the backup copy with the original DVD.
  5. You understand the legal consequences of any breach of these terms and conditions.

What if my edited backup gets scratched/broken/damaged?
Buying a movie from Good Movies means you get a backup copy of the movie for free. This is an amazing service because you can protect the original, and only expose the backup to any possible harm. If something happens to your backup copy, we can help. Whether someone scratches it, steps on it, breaks it, or renders it unplayable, we have a replacement policy to cover it. You can find more about our replacement policy here.
